French Onion Salisbury Steak
Ingredients
1.5 - 2lbs Ground beef
1 large egg
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, divided
1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon mustard powder
1 teaspoon each of salt and ground pepper
5 tablespoons butter
2-3 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
2 1/4 cups beef broth, divided
1/3 cup flour
Sliced provolone cheese
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
In a large bowl add ground beef, egg, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, mustard powder, salt & pepper. With your hands gently mix the ground mixture until everything is combined. Form beef mixture into 5-6 balls, then flatten them into patties. Set aside.
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions, twe tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce and 1/4 cup of beef broth to the skillet. Stir onions to coat them in everything. Cook the onions for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally. When onions are browning, move onions to the edge of the skillet to make room for the beef.
Add beef patties to the skillet and cook them for 4-6 minutes, flip and cook on the other side for the same amount of time. When ready remove patties from skillet, set aside.
Stir the onions around again, sprinkle onions with flour and stir to fully coat. Slowly pour the remaining 2 cups of beef broth into the skillet. Stir constantly and scrape the bottom to pick up any delicious bits that are stuck to the pan. Reduce heat to medium-low, and add the patties back to the skillet.
Sprinkle each patty evenly with Parmesan cheese, top each patty with one or two slices of provolone cheese. Cover the skillet and allow cheese to melt and sauce to thicken and the meat is cooked through, 6-8 minutes.
Serve with mashed/whipped potatoes, whole potatoes or egg noodles.
