Fried Apples
Ingredients
8-12 Granny Smith apples
1 cup unsalted butter, 2 sticks
1 1/2 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
Peel apples and slice them evenly and thinly. If you have an apple cutter, use that and slice those in half. If not, just slice them as best as you can, like I did.
Over a cast-iron skillet, over medium-high heat, melt butter. When butter has melted, add the sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg to the pan. Mix well. While continually stirring, allow sugar to melt.
Add apples to the pan, and stir to coat the apples. Cook apples over the heat for about 10 minutes, till apples are soft, but still crisp.
Serve hot. Goes with pork chops as a side, or as a base and add vanilla ice cream on top. It’s both a side dish and a dessert!
